What is Holistic Massage?

Holistic massage is an individual treatment that is specifically tailored to each client. It means that I will treat you,  the client, as a whole, and take into account your emotional and spiritual well being as well as your physical body.

I have mastered a wide range of massage techniques such as deep tissue methods; from dynamic mobilizations to gentle holds. Every treatment I undertake is unique which allows me to be creative and adaptive depending on your particular need. An initial consultation helps me find out what those needs are so that I can apply the techniques and skills that are best suited to you. I use my sensitivity and intuition to provide a considered and connected approach, creating a space for you to relax, receive and connect.

A Relaxing Massage

Relaxation massage is just that, the focus is on facilitating you to relax. I believe that true relaxation is a lost art in today’s world and that a massage can work wonders to help you do just this. Time to slow down, unwind and let go.  The techniques will vary, from long flowing strokes to warm and soothe the body as well as more focused kneading and manipulation into specific muscles where needed. I may also pause between strokes and simply hold my hands still in one place. I will vary the speed and pressure of the massage, depending on what we obtain from the initial consultation.

Deep Tissue Massage

In deep tissue massage I use specific techniques that focus on the deeper layers of muscle tissue. I aim to release the chronic patterns of tension in the body using slow and deep pressure on the contracted areas.  By following or going across muscular fibers, tendons and fascia, deep tissue massage helps to break up and eliminate scar tissue.  Deep tissue massage usually focuses on more specific areas and may cause some soreness during or right after the massage, however, you will probably not feel a thing a day or two later!

A Head, Neck and Shoulder Massage

I will focus on the most common areas of tension in the upper back, neck, shoulders and head. This tension can often result in stiff muscles, headaches and real discomfort. I use techniques to mobilize the shoulders and scapula, freeing up movement and creating flexibility. By working on tight muscles in the neck and head, I will help to reduce the pain and stiffness you may be experiencing in these areas. Post massage, I may also recommend a number of exercises to help you through the day, to let go of the tension.

Oils

When I practice at Neal’s Yard Therapy Rooms I shall use Neal’s Yard products which will nourish, condition and soften your skin. I will offer you a selection of oils from which to choose. You can take a look at them here: Neal’s Yard Massage oils.

I also have Coconut oil, high in Vitamin E which makes it a lovely natural moisturizer, one of my personal favorites!
